Vintage Giant Eastern Murex seashell. Features many spines and a beautiful mixture of tan, brown, and white coloring. This species of muricidae is the largest murex found in the Western Atlantic, which is where it gets its name from. Other common names are the Tawny Murex or the Giant Atlantic Murex.

These shells are commonly found along the East coast from North Carolina to Florida. Sometimes they are even found in the Gulf of Mexico from Florida to Texas. Found in an old collection, we estimate this shell was collected 50-70 years ago, so we are unsure of its origin.

These shells commonly range from 2.5"-9". This particular shell measures approx 7" and is the largest in our collection.
